Department of Multimedia Design & Animation

About Us

The department of Multimedia Design and Animation started in January, 2009 in the Petaling Jaya Campus with only 10 staff members and now we have 20. During its inception this department only offered the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Graphic Design and Multimedia programme. Currently in Sungai Long campus, this department also facilitates the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Digital Animation programme. In these years the student enrolment and academic staff members has steadily increased. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Department of Multimedia Design and Animation is to prepare students to be professional in the area of their expertise and also to be capable of handling the changing demands of the creative industry.



Academic & Research Activities 

The department members have been actively involved in academic research activities since its establishment. Numerous articles were published in local and international journals which include Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Technology (MOJET), Malaysian Journal of Creative Media, Design and Technology (REKA), Journal of Humanities, Language, Culture and Business (HLCB), Journal of Educational Technology & Society (ETS), Design and Technology Education: An International Journal, Journal of PBL in Higher Education (JPBLHE), Journal of Education And Social Sciences, Journal IEEE Multimedia: Multimedia at Work, International Journal of Information and Communications Technology Education (IJICTE), International Journal of Innovative Technology and Exploring Engineering (IJITEE), International Journal of Information System and Engineering (IJISE) and others. The members have been regularly participating in local and international conferences, workshops and exhibitions to disseminate research findings to the research community. In collaboration with the Centre of Immersive Technology & Creativity, they make it a point to hold one art exhibition biannually.

The Department of Multimedia Design and Animation offers the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Graphic Design and Multimedia and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Animation.

Compulsory pass in both continuous assessment and final examination (with effect from October 2022 trimester onwards).

Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Graphic Design and Multimedia

Graduates of this course will be well-versed both in the theoretical understanding as well as the technical expertise needed for conceptualising graphic design solutions, developing memorable corporate identities, the building and effective management of brands, including the development of sound advertising campaigns and marketing strategies.

Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Animation

This comprehensive programme is structured based on the animation production pipeline. Starting with a strong foundation in theoretical understanding and creative thinking projects, the students are trained to apply research to concept, in order to create engaging storylines, powerful content and memorable character designs.
