Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Game Design

Students who aspire to create digital games and unleash their creativity via the PC, mobile and game console platforms can choose the game art & design path or the game programming & technology path. This programme concentrates on the art and design aspects of game creation with some coverage of fundamental game programming. Students will learn a wide range of skills needed to work in the game industry. These include 2D conceptualisation, illustration, imaging to 3D modeling and animation, game engines as well as fundamental programing along with storytelling, game design, level design and game mechanics to name a few.

Graduates of this course will be able to work in positions such as Game Producer, Games Designer, Game Artist, Game Animator, Music and Sound Editor for Games. 

Programme Educational Objectives 

The objectives of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Game Design programme are as follows: 

  1. Contribute towards the growth and development of the digital entertainment industry through the application of game design knowledge and skills
  2. Apply appropriate approaches and design ideas to produce innovative digital entertainment products.
  3. Demonstrate ability to work professionally with team members and exhibit interpersonal and leadership skills in handling work challenges related to the development of digital entertainment products. 
  4. Exhibit entrepreneurship capabilities, and practice continual professional development through training, advance study and research.

Programme Learning Outcome 

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to: 

  1. Apply knowledge obtained from multi-disciplines in the conceptualization stage of a game design project 
  2. Apply creative and technical knowledge in the pre-production, production and post production stages of a game design project 
  3. Work with people in a team, communicate effectively, respect cultural differences and respond effectively during the various stages of production work 
  4. Comply with work ethics, behave professionally and demonstrate commitment to the vision and mission of an organization 
  5. Show interpersonal skills during group discussions and presentations 
  6. Demonstrate the ability to use relevant information to solve work-related problems or produce new ideas and technologies based on acquired creative and technical skills 
  7. Adopt lifelong learning attitude, apply analytical thinking skills to existing body of knowledge as well as demonstrate the ability to conduct supervised research in the field of game design in the attainment of new body of knowledge in order to keep abreast of the challenges in the animation and game industry 
  8. Demonstrate the ability to use entrepreneurial skills to plan, implement and manage projects according to established business goals or objectives
